China = No love for Facebook!

Hi Everyone!

As most of you will know by now; I have been awarded the privilege of travelling to Hangzhou, China on behalf of NMIT to assist with the delivery of a management research paper at one of the Universities there.

What many of you may not know is that the Chinese Government are apparently not huge fans of Facebook and have banned access to it completely! So I have started up this blog to keep you all up to date on my antics while I’m in China!

So! Details!

We are leaving Nelson on the evening of the 4th of October, flying to Auckland...then Hong Kong... and finally Hangzhou!

We (Lucy and I) are going to be staying in one of NMIT’s three apartments not too far from the University.

We will be away for approximately 19 days- the majority of this time will be spent in the classroom but of course there will be plenty of shopping and sight-seeing!

Our typical daily schedule will consist of working from 8-11, eating lunch from 11-1 (the Chinese always have 2 hours), and then more teaching from 1-2 or 3pm.

Fun Facts (haha):

Hangzhou will be 5 hours behind NZ time by the time Daylight Saving kicks in

I have not only had to learn how to use chopsticks, but use them with my right hand! (I am right handed) as the Chinese don’t eat with their right hand (for reasons many of you will be aware of LOL)

The water in Hangzhou is completely undrinkable so we will be doing everything from brushing our teeth, to cooking, and drinking with bottled water. I also had a Hepatitis vaccination a few days ago just to be on the safe side!

The temperature will likely be between 20 & 23 degrees Celsius while we are there. It has been described to us as being similar to a NZ December day.

Well that’s all I can think of for now... my brain is slightly fried from studying for my Management Accounting test tomorrow!

More updates soon!
